[16:13]<@BC_Programming> sup peeps
[16:16]<+camerongray> Hey BC_Programming
[16:16]<+camerongray> Wanting to spork DB
[16:16]<@BC_Programming> ha
[16:16]<+camerongray> Did you know, when your PC won't POST you should enter safe mode :P
[16:16]<@BC_Programming> yeah duh
[16:16]<+camerongray> He hates me so much - It's brilliant
[16:17]<@BC_Programming> and if the power never comes on, you should try clearing your cache
[16:17]<+camerongray> Maybe a little more than usual after I had a woopsie - Was pastebinning a bunch of nonsense he had said to show Calum - May have accidentally pasted the pastebin link into the channel
[16:17]<+camerongray> No idea if he saw it
[16:18]<@BC_Programming> Patio has some of the same habits
[16:19]<+camerongray> He does but not as bad
[16:19]<@BC_Programming> recently he was saying something about how "Windows by it's very nature remembers the last thing in the drive" to explain why somebody's DVD Drive would appear as a CD-ROM
[16:19]<+camerongray> Oh - There was the classic the other day
[16:19]<+camerongray> Use a cigarette to test air flow through your PC!
[16:19]<+camerongray> Can you think of any better idea than to take a brand new PC and force smoke through it?
[16:20]<@BC_Programming> save time, no need for a cigarette, just set it on fire
[16:20]<+camerongray> haha!
[16:20]<@BC_Programming> if the flames get bigger you have good airflow
[16:20]<+camerongray> If I bought a PC and it smelled of smoke - I'd send it straight back
[16:21]<@BC_Programming> wit hthe Optical drive thing I tested from 98 forwards and XP,Vista,7, and 8 always identified the drive properly, 98/ME always identified the drive as a CD-ROM Drive, and I observed absolutely no "memory effect" that patio was saying
[16:21]<@BC_Programming> his response
[16:21]<@BC_Programming> was basically "so what I've seen for years didn't happen"
[16:21]<@BC_Programming> was tempted to just say "Nope"
[16:21]<+camerongray> Where was this>
[16:22]<+camerongray> I saw the bit about a laptop that came with FreeDOS not supporting Windows
[16:22]<+camerongray> Then had to laugh when he said "It probably came with Linux" despite the person saying it came with FreeDOS
[16:22]<@BC_Programming> http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,143866.0.html
[16:23]<+camerongray> haha nice
[16:24]<+camerongray> I just can't understand DB - It's almost like he's trolling
[16:24]<+camerongray> My parents seem to be able to use a PC better than him, and my mum just freaked out when I told her to try something in IE!
[16:26]<@BC_Programming> regarding DB trolling,Hanlon's razor, I think it is- never attribute to malice that which can adequately be explained by stupidity
[16:27]<@BC_Programming> I mean some of the stupid stuff you just cannot make up and is the sort of thing you might expect from somebody with a teneous grasp of the subject matter
[16:27]<@BC_Programming> "Windows Workspace" is still my favourite
[16:27]<+camerongray> haha yeah
[16:27] * KindOne (KindOne@2CF07725.8847CC8D.4DC5B155.IP) Quit (Connection reset by peer)
[16:29]<+camerongray> The other day he told me to "Just admit that I'm wrong for once"
[16:29]<+camerongray> Which was amusing since I was right and he was talking nonsense ;P
[16:29]<+camerongray> Claiming you can move an OEM licence of Windows 7 to a different PC
[16:30]<+camerongray> Claims "he just did it" and then gives me the phone number for MS activation for some reaosn
[16:30]<@BC_Programming> they probably would let you do that, though it is against the EULA
[16:30]<+camerongray> Exactly what I said
[16:30]<@BC_Programming> after all they are just PCDoc's in India doing the activation
[16:31]<+camerongray> Says something about how you need to talk to a human (which the UK activation line doesn't have) - He then says that I must have phoned the wrong number. Which is odd since I have the number he gave me several times in my call log
[16:31]<@BC_Programming> see I would have probably said
[16:31]<+camerongray> I then provide the EULA, he ignores it, I prod him again - He then changes to "I was talking about a retail copy"
[16:31]<@BC_Programming> "I'll admit I was wrong when I originally ascribed to you basic intelligence"
[16:31]<+camerongray> Which is funny since he was talking about OEM previously
[16:32]<+camerongray> And I actually stated "You can move a full retail copy but not an OEM one" clearly beforehand
[16:33] * KindOne (KindOne@2CF07725.8847CC8D.4DC5B155.IP) has joined #glitchpc
[16:34]<+camerongray> Now there's fun in the channel. Someone says their bank phoned saying a transaction had been blocked and is wondering if their PC has been compromised. Patio is straight on thinking that this call was a sam
[16:34]<+camerongray> scam*
[16:35]<@BC_Programming> http://deskthority.net/w/images/8/81/83key.jpg
[16:36]<+camerongray> yep - Want one for my XT
[16:36]<+camerongray> He's just made up what he think's happening, and now believing his own story
[16:36]<@BC_Programming> What are you using now? a 104 key with the switch on the bottom
[16:37]<+camerongray> Using my Unicomp Classic ATM (Been on my FIlco for a while)
[16:37]<+camerongray> Both my model Ms are 102 key (no switch)
[16:37]<+camerongray> A 1989 and a 1986
[16:37]<@BC_Programming> Are those switchable to be use with an XT or are they XT keyboards?
[16:38]<+camerongray> THey just seem to auto detect
[16:38]<+camerongray> The 1986 came with the XT from the factory, the 1989 would have shipped with a tower model PS/2 but both work equally on the XT and on a modern PC over PS/2->USB
[16:38]<+camerongray> Just need to connect the correct cable
[16:39]<@BC_Programming> I wouldn't have expected XTs to have PS/2 ports, the 286 I had used a Mini-Din
[16:39]<+camerongray> Nah, the XT doesn't - I just have both cables
[16:39]<+camerongray> The keyboards have detachable cables
[16:40]<@BC_Programming> I'm cleaning my old PS/2 keyboard
[16:40]<+camerongray> The XT cable has a big 5 pin DIN on it
[16:40]<@BC_Programming> took it apart and giving it a proper clean
[16:40]<+camerongray> AHh nice
[16:40]<+camerongray> Denture cleaning tablets - Best way to clean keys
[16:41]<@BC_Programming> haven't cleaned the keys yet, just the case, trying to think of a way to clean the keys
[16:41]<@BC_Programming> Probably too lazy to go to the store and buy tablets
[16:41]<+camerongray> Just used some to clean a filthy keyboard for my Sun Ultra 1 and Ultra 5 - Came out super white and minty fresh :P
[16:41]<+camerongray> Ultra 5 works, Ultra 1 seems to be confusingly borked
[16:42]<+camerongray> When the keyboard is connected (which enables the video) I get strange error codes but without the keyboard it boots fine
[16:42]<+camerongray> So I think the framebuffer card is busted
[16:42]<@BC_Programming> I might try to get a cheap monitor so I can setup my Q8200 for something
[16:42]<+camerongray> Works over the serial console though
[16:43]<+camerongray> Cool
[16:44]<@BC_Programming> It's just sitting there doing nothing
[16:44]<+camerongray> These old sun machines are fun to play with
[16:44]<+camerongray> Got Solaris 8 on the Ultra 5 - Able to browse the internet in Netscape 4
[16:50]<KindOne> sup
[16:52]<+camerongray> Nothing much :P
[16:52]<+camerongray> Well actually - Got my very old PC working (The one I used between 2005 and 2010) - So many memories :P
[16:52]<@BC_Programming> I just remembered the mechanical keyboard transformers thing
[16:52]<@BC_Programming> that was a classic
[16:53]<+camerongray> That was brilliant
[16:53]<+camerongray> Only DB would try to argue with me about mechanical keyboards
[16:54]<+camerongray> Like when he tried to argue with me about parts for a gaming PC
[16:54]<@BC_Programming> don't you know he manages an inventory of several thousand!
[16:54]<+camerongray> That would be like me arguing with him about... err...
[16:54]<@BC_Programming> how to make an ass of yourself?
[16:54]<+camerongray> Ahh yeah, that
[16:54]<+camerongray> To be fair, I'm pretty good at that too
[16:54]<+camerongray> BC_Programming: They exclusively use mechanical keyboards
[16:55]<+camerongray> 2 days later "We exclusevely use Dell keyboards"
[16:55]<@BC_Programming> it's the nonsense anecdotes that I love the most
[16:55]<+camerongray> Did you see his logic about AMD CPUs?
[16:55]<@BC_Programming> I'm sure if you pushed it with the keyboard he would have gone "Well then explain why I saw transformers when I took one apart"
[16:55]<+camerongray> I could probably express it in propositional logic or something
[16:56]<+camerongray> His logic being: Intel CPUs are used in business PCs, therefore AMD is better for a gaming PC
[16:56]<@BC_Programming> It's flawless
[16:56]<+camerongray> I just sort of stared at the screen trying
[16:56]<+camerongray> s/trying//g
[16:57]<+camerongray> If you want to argue with someone about something - Make sure you know what you are arguing about at least as well as them :P
[16:58]<+camerongray> It's the same flaw as Geek-9pm has with his logic
[16:58]<+camerongray> I can't use laptops in lectures that I go to therefore laptops are not allowed in any lecture anywhere in the world
[17:01]<KindOne> Resistance is futile
[17:01]<+camerongray> Yeah
[17:01]<+camerongray> There will always be idiots :P
[17:07]<@BC_Programming> there, I used dish soap and will soak them for a good long while
[17:07]<@BC_Programming> the keyboard keys, I mean
[17:07]<+camerongray> lol
[17:08]<+camerongray> See, if you'd said that in CH patio would have freaked out at you doing something slightly unusual with computer parts
[17:08]<@BC_Programming> I just used the keyboard keys
[17:08]<@BC_Programming> I'm not uxwbill or whoever puts the entire thing in the dishwasher
[17:09]<+camerongray> lol!
[17:09]<+camerongray> But you used soap!
[17:09]<+camerongray> That's bad or something
[17:09]<+camerongray> Wish he'd seen me hot swap my DVD drive since he's terrfied of the idea of people even opening a PC that's on
[17:09]<@BC_Programming> SATA can be hot-swapped I know that much :P
[17:10]<+camerongray> Yep :P
[17:10]<@BC_Programming> heck they make special removable drive bays
[17:10]<+camerongray> Yeah
[17:11]<@BC_Programming> oh and uxwbill whoever used soap too... he put it in with other dishes even lol
[17:11]<+camerongray> Yeah - He's great
